This past Sunday I ran the most delicious run of my life, the PNE Donut Dash. This family friendly 5K fun run is hosted by Try Events, and is a no brainer if you like running/ walking , having fun and mini donuts.
This run was also perfect to try with the jogging stroller, read on for my “sweet” race recap.
The run started and finished at Empire Field and went through the Playland and PNE fairgrounds. At $35 ($40 for late registrations), it was affordable considering registration included a buff (headband), a finishing medal and entry into the fair. There were plenty of volunteers handing out churros, little bags of mini donuts, and of course water. At the finish line, runners were handed bottles of water and mini donuts.
Likes:
- Lively and fun ambiance – costumes, tutus, inflatable donuts, and PNE characters cheering you on throughout the course. Which also provided entertainment for the many kids that participated.
- Food stations – A fun way to indulge in some of the fair treats while burning it off at the same time. 😉
- The medal – it’s super cute, I am a sucker for a good medal.
- It’s cheap – $40 (max)
- Free entry to the PNE – we made it into a full day event rather than just a morning. Indulging in some delicious fair food and enjoying the attractions.
Dislikes:
- No kilometer markers – where were they?
- PNE wasn’t open early – Unfortunately the faster runners had a lot of time to kill after the race because the PNE didn’t open until 11am (and the race started at 9am). There was a soft opening at 10:30 but this was just to let everyone waiting outside in off the street. We were held at the front entrance until 11am.
How did I do with the jogging Stroller?
I wasn’t sure what to expect from my little guy as its always just been the two of us running. However he pleasantly surprised me laughing and waving throughout the run. The fun ambiance and numerous kids provided him with lots of stimulation along the way. There were more hills than I expected but I managed it with minimal issue. I finished in a relaxed 40 minutes which is considerably slower than my stroller free 5 km time but I was by no means going for a PB. Although it was a bit hard to navigate the crowds at the beginning of the race, overall my first race with a jogging stroller was a success.
Would I do this again?
Absolutely! If you are considering participating next year my advise…..don’t treat it as a serious race. Stop and enjoy the treats and entertainment along the course. It’s a fun race for non-runners and PB-seekers alike, providing another reason to look forward to the PNE.
Now….I just need to get to one of the FREE Summer Night Concerts. 😉
This looks like such a fun race and it’s cool that you got to enjoy it with your son. This is a race I could see myself doing since there are treats at the end. LOL
It was really fun and the treats were along the route as well.
haha that is a great fun run!!! I am keeping this in mind for events at our school 🙂 love the idea
It would make a great addition to school event.

It was a a lot of fun.
It looks like a fun event. I wish there was something like this in the city where I live.
My little one and I love stroller running. I’ve been reluctant to take him to any races though for the same reason as you. I might have to try it since you had such a good experience!

I recommend it, just start with a fun family friendly run first.
That looks really fun. I always think that doughnuts are a great motivation.
What a brilliant idea! I wish they did this in the UK! xx
What a super cool and fun race! Love everyones costumes and outfits and the day looked great!
Okay I have never done a fun themed race like this. I’ve only ever done the Disney half marathons a few times (which were amazing). I love the idea of a donut dash haha. It’s also super helpful how you list out your likes and dislikes in case anyone else wants to do this!
Thanks for stopping by, and the feedback!! I would love to do a Disney race one day.
I have always wanted to do a Disney run….its on my bucket list.
Awesome looking race. And now I’ve just got doughnuts on the mind. Mmmmm
I saw this and thought did I see running and donuts in one sentence?! Haha. I love thesr fun runs. We have these in Vegas all the time like the Superhero ones where you dress up like your favorite superhero or the ones like the foam run (yes you are sprayed with foam). It’s always a charity run and a great way to get exercise. I love ti because I can always bring my puppy 🙂
Thanks sounds fun I’ve heard of foam runs but not participated. I’ll keep it in mind for my next fun run.
A donut race? Seriously sounds like so much fun. I would have loved to attended this event with my little one!
That’s really cool that you did the run with a stroller. I had no idea that was even a thing. I am glad you guys enjoyed yourselves.
It was a blast! Thanks for stopping by!

This looks like so much fun! Seems like a much more entertaining take on the traditional race!
Well, you learn something new every day. I didn’t know there was such a thing as donut dash! Where do I sign up? LOL
That donut dash race recap looks so much fun. Those donuts looks so tempting and mouth-watering.
The doughnut dash sounds not only like a great way to get into shape but to also sneak in a few yummy treats! What I great incentive! Keep up the amazing work!
Ahaha omg this looks so much fun! I wish we’d have such events in the Philippines, too 🙂 Thanks for sharing, made me want a midnight snack, too. Lol
This is such a great experience! You had me at the photo of donuts lol… and being able to share it with your child makes it all the more special, I’m sure!
