One of my favorite holidays traditions is a stocking fundraiser I help to coordinate for a local women’s shelter.

Last year we donated 95 stockings, and over the last 13 years we have raised over 968 stockings. This years goal is 75 stockings.

This confidentially located shelter, provides a safe, caring environment for women and their children fleeing from domestic violence.   Offering counseling, support, and advocacy to help these women and children and provide a chance to heal.

Inaugural Big Pirate Run- Swashbuckling fun!

Big Pirate RunIf we are social media friends, then you know that we had a Swashbuckling good time this past Sunday and the Big Fun Race Series first inaugural Big Pirate run at Gary point park.  Its no secret that I LOVE me a good costume and or fun run so this was a obvious choice, and not my first Big Fun race, you can read about last years Big Elf run here.

If you are looking for a fun affordable and inclusive fitness family event, then the Big Fun Race Series  events are perfect for you.  Open to all fitness levels the offer a wide range of options for all fitness levels.

The event included  1-3km Little Pirates run, and 5km, 10km, 15km, and 21.1km….so really something for everyone.

Camping with Kids- Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park

After two years of isolation and staying local it has been revitalizing fill our summer with friends, both new and old, trips near and far, all with a sense of freedom to relax and explore.

Camping is an interesting and unique experience.  Though it may seem like all there is to do is sit around a campfire, there are many things to be learned from camping.

Camping, reminds us how much we rely on the “comforts of home” and how difficult life can be without them,  which can help us to be more grateful for what we have and appreciate the simple things in life.

The BMO Marathon- It more than just a race

The best thing about a race is the opportunity to really test yourself… ok that’s a lie, the best thing is the energy of the running community and the inspiring display of humanity, followed up with a post-race celebratory beer and your favorite meal with friends or family.

This past Sunday I completed my 6th BMO Marathon Event, and historically I always post a race recap to help you decide if it’s the right race for you.   Things like if there are lot of hills or uneven surfaces,  Or if they skimp on porta potties.  All the things that matter, and of course detail about how the race went for me.

This year instead of the same tired race recap I am going to share a few of my favorite memories from BMO events over the last six year, highlighting what makes it more than just a race.
