It’s been a few weeks now since people in B.C. have been asked to stay at home, and for some of us it feels like an eternity. Regardless of whether you are going into the office or working from home, things are bound to be different. Your office may feel empty without the hustle and bustle of the entire staff. If you’re working from home you could be in a confined space, or like me you may have a child/children yearning for your attention throughout the day.
As we continue to practice self-isolation and physical distancing amid the corona-virus pandemic. Here are a few ways I have been keeping boredom at bay and my sanity intact during my COVID-19 lIfe.
ROUTINE
Wake up, have coffee hit the pavement for my 5am run, shower do my hair and get ready as if I was going to work. This has allowed some normalcy into both my day but also my sons day, helping him to differentiate workdays from weekends. Also, as much as I would be more comfortable in tights, I have tried to dress in clothing similar to what I would wear at work. This keeps my brain stimulated and in “work mode.”
Call Family and friends
As Sweets says, lets, “Lets FaceCall!” we have been making regular call to the Grandparents. Given the current plethora of time it’s been nice to be able to connect more often with our family back East.
manicure or pedicure
I used to do this on the regular…and I really don’t know why I stopped…..Sometimes it’s the small things in life that can make all the difference, with a fresh manicure being up there.
Reading
Yet another thing I love that fell to the sidelines with the relentless pressure of everyday life. Reading and writing helps me to find a familiar and comforting spot in the self-reflective and soothing part of my mind.
Planting flowers and doing yard work
We have been doing tons of backyard renovations, including tearing down 2 sheds to build new ones, and repairing the fences. Plus the weeding and general upkeep.
Puzzling times
Adrian and I have also completed a 1500-piece puzzle which I love and hate at the same time. It took us 3 weeks of evenings, and it has to be said that Adrian saved the last two pieces for me to put in after i had put Sweets down….What a guy!
exercise
I am someone who enjoys running and working out every day. As said, I am still committed to my early morning runs and I am averaging 45km a week. There are tons of free resources online, which I try to incorporate 1-2 times per week.
Cleaning
It’s wonderful to be able to stay on top of the tidying and laundry without the feeling of anxiety being pressed for time creates. Which has in turn created more time and energy to enjoy picnics and art projects.
This past weekend I completed a HUGE spring clenching that resulted in 7 bags for goodwill, 6 bags for VargageSale, 1 bag for shredding, and several bags of garbage. It feels great!
REMEMBER: There are good days and bad days, and its OK to give up sometimes.
Tensions can be high in my house, we have a 4-year-old that loves to test us and push the boundaries. We often go head to head in a “Wild Royal Rumble of Wills” WWF style. Some days working from home involves poo and pee in place that it shouldn’t be. These are the times when I just throw up my hands or cry in the bathroom. There have been days when I have thrown myself completely into work because I need the normalcy.
Some days it’s just about getting through the best I can.
