The weather is getting chillier, the air is crisp, and the days are getting shorter, making it the perfect time of year to reflect on some self-care goals for fall.
Self-care is one of those things that gives back exponentially with time — the longer we practice, the more we get out of it. And since stress is a an unavoidable part of life and parenthood. Honoring our self-care practices, while honing our ability to respond to everyday challenges in healthy proactive ways, makes all the difference.
Seriously, learning how to deal with stress while taking great care of ourselves is an absolutely key skill set for life, and #adulting in general.
The great thing about self-care is this: it can be very simple, cheap, and doesn’t need to even take much time. Fitting in different practices throughout your day can work really well — a few minutes of meditation here, a fifteen minutes walk there. There’s so much we can do to help ease rattled nerves, promote optimism, and help care for our bodies in super loving ways, even as we juggle all the demands that day-to-day life brings. Here are a few of my favorite fall self-care activities .
Warm Up & Get Cozy
Self-care is a must all year round, but some activities are especially perfect for those months when we need to warm up as we decompress. Sipping hot tea, or homemade apple cider, while snuggled up under blankets with a great book or movie, is perfect for when the days start getting shorter and temperature drops.
Get cooking
The cooler months are perfect for spending more time in the kitchen, if that’s your thing…. not my thing……..However I do make a tasty salmon chowder, and I have a African peanut stew recipe I can follow without messing up. this can be a great self-care practices because you get to nourish your body, and feel cozy.
Learn To Knit
Its not nice to laugh….seriously knitting is relaxing….expect when you continually drop a stitch. I haven’t knitted in a few years, no time these days. Pre-kids I took a few lessons and made blankets, and a scarf that I still love. Knitting is a great, tech-free way to occupy yourself in a creative way.
Take A Foliage-Hued WALK OR RUN
While it’s not quite cold yet, the leaves are turning and starting to fall, and its beautiful. Getting outside is a great way to de-stress and stay active, while also enjoying the beauty of the season.
Get lost in a book
Now that you’ll be spending more time indoors, it’s the perfect time to start that book thats been sitting on your bedside table collecting dust. Continuing to develop our talents and interests is a key component to self-care and personal development.
Take A Hot Bath
A particular favorite of mine, I like to combined this with the previous suggestion. (What can I I say, I love to multitask.) A leisurely bath is one of the best ways to wind down, add some bath salts, candles, and your favorite spa playlist, and you’re all set.
Regardless of what your favorite self-care activities might be, fall is a great time to embrace new ones, while indulging in cozy favorites. With great a self-care practices in place, you’ll be ready for the challenges that the colder months may bring.
