This holiday you will most likely be faced with holiday treats, get together with family and friends and you may even be planning a getaway if you are lucky enough to enjoy a four day weekend. Here are some simple Easter tips to stay on track with your fitness goals.
- Start with a real breakfast, after all it is the most important meal of the day. You many not be able to control what’s served on the brunch or dinner table but you can certainly control what you eat when you wake up. Make a smoothie to load up on nutrients and filling fiber, my personal Favorite is a New York Cheese Cake Smoothie, Simple to make and versatile.
- Drink Plenty of Water. Place thin cucumber and lemon slices I n your water for a refreshing liver-detoxing and digestion adding beverage.
- Incorporate real eggs as part of your celebration. Real eggs are a great source of protein and rich in vitamins. You can get the kids involved during the week with egg dying and painting providing beautiful hardboiled eggs to enjoy for breakfast Easter morning.
- Fill up on Veggies. Before you dive into the Easter basket take a cue from the Easter Bunny and munch on a plate full of veggies or salad. The fiber will fill you up, so you are less likely to overindulge.
- Enjoy the Sweets last. After you’ve filled up on veggies and protein, then enjoy the holiday treats. While its easy to inhale five or six….or a whole bag of candies in one sitting, slow down and savour each bite. (Speaking from a Chocolaoholic herself with a weakness for Mini Eggs)
- Exchange non-chocolate gifts. I can’t believe I am even putting this on my list….but the suggestion is viable…please keep the Easter chocolates flowing my way. 😉
- Treat yourself on just one day and then save the rest. My house regularly contains an abundance of Swiss chocolate which we enjoy in two-three piece increments on a daily basis. However if self-control isn’t your thing it might be better to give it away afterwards.
- Make Exercise an Occasion. Celebrate with family and friends with a scavenger hunt, bike ride, egg and spoon races, or fitness style Easter egg hunt. These are just a few ideas, I encourage you to start thinking of ways to socialize and stay active at the same time.
- Watch your portion sizes. Fill your plate with veggies, go easy on the carbs and keep your portion to a fist size serving. If you are enjoying the holiday treats then pass on dessert afterwards.
- Go for quality not quantity. In the words of my step-son, “No Cheap Chocolate.” Pay more and purchase smaller amounts of quality chocolate. The better the chocolate the more your savor every mouthful, plus not having as much means consuming less calories.
Great tips here! I always love the tip to eat a solid meal before you indulge, making sure you’re more full off the good stuff. And then of course, to treat yourself in a small way and savor it! I appreciate that you don’t encourage cutting it off completely. And yesss to quality chocolate!
I could never support a chocolate free life…that would be just wrong.
Exercises in a plastic egg?! Love it!!

I LOVE the idea of making exercise an occasion! My kids love to do things kind of like obstacle courses, anything they can climb on and jump off lol, so we might try to Incorporate something like that into our Easter egg hunt!
I’m thrilled to hear you’ve gotten some inspiration here!! Please Let me know how it goes,
Eggs for breakfast is always a winner. A lot of research that suggests those that do as opposed to cereal and/or other options have a better chance of keeping the fat off. For those with kids, painting them is a great way to get them invested in eating them
It works in our house, the kids always want to eat their specially decorated eggs.? Thanks for stopping by.
Great tips! I don’t have children yet, so it’s a lot easier to just not buy any easter treats. If I don’t have them in the house, I won’t crave them. 🙂
I remember those days…yes so much easier.
Great tips! I’m not much of a candy or chocolate fan on Easter so I like the idea of non chocolate or candy gifts!
Great tips, and I love the title! I like that you say eat the real eggs, and it is encouraging that you say save the treats for last instead of not eating them! It is important to exchange non-candy items too! Thanks for your advice!
Thanks, thrilled you enjoyed. I was pleased with my play on words, nice to hear someone else enjoyed it. Yes real eggs don’t get enough Easter press. Sweets are a nice holiday treat but nutrition is key.
Lots of value here. Thanks for an unstoppable post this Easter!
Thanks thrilled to hear this!!
These are fantastic tips. I finally have realized after 33 years that I can eat it tomorrow. So instead of eating 3 chocolate peanut butter eggs, I eat one and give myself permission to eat it later if I want. And we love egg decorating!
Better late than never…and that sounds way better to me anyways. 1 chocolate a day rather than none on 2 of the days.
My favorite one is to fill up on fiber! I need to remember to do this on Sunday!!
Simple and effective.
Love these tips but especially the last one. A look at the ingredient list should be enough of a deterrent…
Lovely tips !!!! As you said they are simple and effective !!
Thanx for such a lovely post
