2021- BIG ELF Run RACE RECAP

This was my first year participating in the Big Fun Run Series- Big Elf Run 10km.  What better way to kick off the festive season then running with a group of elves?!   In addition to an Elf hat. Entrants receive a custom elf name and unique race medal that can double as Christmas ornament. From here on in you can call me Sweetcheeks Gift-Love

Suffice to say there was a lot of Pre and post race elfing around to keep everyone entertained and engaged.  There was a 1Km  Wee Elf Run/Walk  in addition to 5k and 15km Big Elf Run distances….so really something for everyone.

THE RACE

Starting at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park.  This 5km loop winds its way along trails surrounded by trees before looping onto the seawall with views of Coal Harbour and the Burrard Inlet. With few inclines and mainly paved paths, everyone is assured a beautiful and stress-free run/walk.

The rain made a brief appearance, and we were gifted a beautiful rainbow to celebrate our Elftastic efforts.

13 weeks as a run Leader

With a little pushing from Janette at @avatozoe in September I signed up to be a SportMedBC run leader, and over the last 13 weeks I joined Clinic Coordinator Shani and fellow run leader Carla to support this amazing group of Candy Cane Calves on their learn to run 10km journey.

Big Elf Run

This was a big adjustment for me as I am primarily a solo runner. I use my runs as a chance to push mute on life making running more of a meditative experience.  For many the biggest draw of a running in a group is the accountability, but for me it was all social.

It was an incredible treat sharing stories, swapping parenting and gear advise, and just generally getting to know an inspiring and interesting group of individuals.  Only sweetened by their smiles, enthusiasm, overwhelming positivity, and personal pride at crossing the finish line.

Congratulations to everyone that participated!  Big thank you to Big Fun Run SeriesSportMedBC,  and all the sponsors and volunteers that helped make this event possible.  Big thanks to Janette for pushing me to try something new.

How about you, did you participate, I would love to hear your experience?

Interested in Signing up for a SportMedBC clinic this spring…..the Steveston group will start in January, stay tuned for more information on my Social.
